The “Look Legit” Checklist: 9 Quick Wins to Stop Looking DIY
You don’t need a rebrand to stop looking like a side hustle.
You need a few smart fixes that make people say, “Oh, they’re the real deal.” This is the exact checklist we run through when a new client says, “Something feels off, but I can’t put my finger on it.”
1. Is your logo actually usable?
Not “cute on a T-shirt.” Usable. One-color version, works small, works on dark and light, not pixelated, not from that free logo generator with 7 million twins.
If it falls apart as an email signature or favicon, it’s not ready.
2. Do your colors show up the same… everywhere?
Your red shouldn’t be five different reds. Lock in hex codes. Use them on your website, socials, signage, decks, shirts. Consistency = instant trust.
3. Is your typography saying the right things?
Three fonts max:
One for headlines
One for body copy
One accent (maybe)
If it looks like a free birthday flyer, your prices will feel negotiable.
4. Does your website load fast on a phone?
If it takes 6 seconds to load on 4G, they’re gone. If they have to pinch and zoom to hit “Call,” they’re gone. “Looks good on my laptop” is not a strategy.
5. Is your Google Business Profile current?
Accurate hours, real photos, current phone number, recent reviews. This is your digital storefront. If this is wrong, nothing else matters.
6. Are your socials aligned—or all over the place?
You don’t need to be everywhere.
You do need:
The same logo
The same name
A clear bio
A link that works
Recent posts that match your brand
If your last post was from 2022, people assume you’re either closed or coasting.
7. Do you have proof?
Logos are nice. Screenshots, testimonials, case studies, and before/after photos close deals.
Make it easy for people to think: “Ah. They’ve done this before.”
8. Is your messaging clear in 10 seconds or less?
If I land on your homepage, can I instantly answer:
What do you do?
Who is this for?
Why should I trust you?
If not, trim the fluff.
9. Is there one obvious next step?
Call. Book. Buy. Donate. Apply. Schedule. Something.
No one should have to hunt for how to work with you.
